Wellfleet Massachusetts was the original land area of Eastham. Billingsgate was an early name given for the town and the harbor by early Pilgrims after a great fish market in England. Wellfeet was finally incorporated as it's own town in 1763. Originally known for it's oysters, Wellfleet became a whaling town until  Lorenzo Dow Baker, owner with his brother in-law of the United Fruit Company,  bought the Mercantile Wharf and built the Chequesset Inn  turned Wellfleet into a sought after resort area.
 
There are many beautiful and wonderful places to see and explore. You certainly don't want to miss stopping by The Beach Comber  and Wellfleet beaches and harbor
