The town of Yarmouth Massachusetts was named Mattacheese by the native Americans, incorporated in 1639 and named from a seaport at the mouth of the Yar, in Norfolk County, England. Originally, Yarmouth covered the lands of Harwich, Brewster, Chatham and Barnstable when founded by the Pilgrims. Yarmouth is comprised of three beautiful distinct villages, Bass River, South Yarmouth and West Yarmouth.
